Is Social Networking a Giant Time Killer?

March 26, 2010

Well, it doesn’t have to be.
But if you’re not approaching it the right way, you could be wasting a lot of your precious time.

It’s also important to note that visiting various social media sites may TAKE UP some time – but it’s certainly not a WASTE of time. When approaching FaceBook, Twitter & other sites, remember that a 3 month set strategic plan is a rock solid way for your business to start getting “social.”  Be careful not to approach it haphazardly . .  .

* Don’t log into the sites “whenever,” with nothing planned to say.
* Don’t start creating or posting without doing research.  What’s your competitor doing?
* Don’t ignore your audience.  Have you tested to see if your audience likes your message?

Remember, soft marketing is a delicate art.  If your company starts off in social networking with a hard sell, guaranteed people will lose interest very quickly!  After I set a client up on each site, I keep the ball rolling & follow the quarterly plan we created together.   After that time, I offer the client control of the reins (I don’t want them to get overwhelmed before then) & send them out on their own into the wild blue yonder.  The client knows at this point social networking is a long-term time commitment, but that 3 month plan lays everything out for them & makes updating easy!

If you’re not certain about social networking, it can definitely seem like a waste of time.
However!  I’m certified in this field & I’m certain about this:

Strategic Plan + Time Spent = More Clients

Give it the ‘ol 3 month try & see for yourself!
