So you think the business of voice over is EASY?

February 2, 2010

Many times I’ve been approached by people who say, “How can I do voice overs, like you Rose? I’ve always wanted to do it & lots of people have told me I’d be really good at it.”

I’m always supportive & take the time to answer their questions, but honestly?  Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating when they think it’s just a matter of signing up somewhere.  The fact is . . . it takes a lot of commitment and dedication to succeed in this very competitive field.  I enjoy being a performer, & being immersed in the world of voice over constantly feeds my desire to be selected for the next great gig!  As my dad used to say (who was a masonary contractor) . . . no job too small  🙂

& there’s lots to know about the business. Think about this:  A 60 second commercial really takes much longer than 60 seconds to complete. The job will most likely include a telephone discussion, email communication & script rewrites, & most definitely include a recording, edit of the voice file, file upload, email, approval, invoice & thank you note when paid.  Not to mention the time needed for marketing your business & the many follow up calls to potential clients.  So please!  Never be under the impression that the business of voice over is EASY.

If you’d like further information on the art of voice over, I suggest checking out a few books:

& if you need voice over for your business?
Please . . . leave it to the professionals!
